Driving digital literacy in schools

Fortess member R Chandra has been leading the Digital Literacy program, which focuses on ensuring students in rural schools get the basic computer education before they graduate to higher grades. Last year, we partnered with Sevalaya in running the project and the results have been more impactful. A few updates:

  • Digital Literacy introduced in S.M Hindu Hr.Sec.School at Sirkali MOU signed on Apr 21.
  • 600 Students from classes 6, 7 and 8 given training on computers with syllabus prepared by Sevalaya team
  • Sirkali Computer teacher trained by Sevalaya mentor to write lesson plans & teach computer effectively
  • Existing computer lab upgraded, 3 rooms with smart TV & good network setup
  • 40 theory classes & 35 practical classes conducted in the academic year
  • 20 online classes (2 per month) taken by Sevalaya mentor teacher
  • Assessment framework put in place and results monitored periodically
  • Plans to conduct monthly Sevalaya mentor – teacher sessions
  • Competitions and counselling sessions to be held to impart the importance of Digital Literacy to the students
